I need a jooooob. I don't want a job; but I'm beginning to feel slightly odd about being a college senior who sits around all day over summer break on her computer... Much like she has been doing since she was in gradeschool. Oh well, old habits die hard and it's totally worth it. [livejournal.com profile] omg_alchemist owns my soul, and I'm proud of it.
Also, I've apped all over the friggen town: Local businesses, big businesses, design studios, restaurants, your mother. You know. And through all my harassment, no one wants a temp.
Bastards.
SO NOT FOR LACK OF TRYING AM I UNEMPLOYED!
I can probably find some babysitting work, thanks to my mom (oh gods... munchkins. Kill me please?), and maybe something that involves poking at shrubbery. Plant nursury work or something. And there may have been something at the city water ordinance or something like that. I dunno. My mom said she had to talk to people.
On the up-hand, I have lots of time to write (mostly on the rp, but practice is practice, mofos), and draw, and read. I have two Neil Gaiman books I need to read (Neverwhere and American Gods. I cannot believe it's taken me this long to get around to those), House of Leaves, and Snow Crash, which if it isn't in by tomorrow, I get free. Come on, snail-mail! Do your worst!~
I've started House first, mostly because I like how shiny and cool the cover is, and I like carrying it around. Also, I think it could probably be used as a weapon.
I know I probably mentioned this, but since I'm lazy and A.D.D. about reading backlogs (edit: my last post) I'll say it again, I have that Comics Illustration demo on the 16th, which I'm actually getting sorta excited about. I submitted a random illustration I did in a couple hours in pen and ink for the flyer that's gonna be up ALL. OVER. TOWN. I do not like the idea of my stuff being up all over town. Anyway, good thing, it looks damn good once it's on the poster, and the nerdy little guy down at the store likes to hit on me, so I used it to my advantage and got him to color it, since he's good in Photoshop. Yays! It looks perrrdy.
So there's that.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] rsiasta is an evil purveyor of temptation, but THE ICON IS UP ON THIS JOURNAL, NOT THE RP! BOHAH.

i LOVE haunted. i'm SORT of relaxed since i get to see my friends, but one of my friends already started some arguement with me (drama) and i have this job all day on weekdays, so i mean, yes, i get money, but i'm sacrificing a lil relaxation. but i think it's for the better.

*Eyeroll* Ooh, friend-drama. Gotta love it. We got some of that going on over here, too, only I'm not directly involved. One of my best friends, Eric, and another of our friends, Shayna, had this blowout and now it suck because she's his boss and is making his life miserable. Oh argh. And it was totally out of the blue, but luckily before I got back so I only have to deal a teensy bit. Bleah.
And yeah, I'm sorta tweaky about not having a job and feeling like a loser, but then again, next year very well may kill me, so I think I'd better relax while I can. I tell you I'm taking four Seqa classes in fall?
*ded*

Yes... Yes I see the tuna in it's rawness.

Plant nurseries! Why didn't I think of that? There's billions of them around here, and I wouldn't run into anyone I knew! (I've already been scolded by several potential employers this summer for applying for the summer only... why must people be punished for leaving the area for college?)

I almost bought House of Leaves when I was at the bookstore (once I recovered from the Snakes on a Plane incident), but The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay was slightly cheaper, and something that, on an odd technicality, could be written off as a book I needed for classes last quarter. (-; I still definitely need to read House of Leaves, though...

Yeah, I don't think nureries pay too good, but I mean, they're generally everywhere and I can't see too much temp-hate there. And I know it sucks, but it's nice to not be the only one who's gotten chewed out recently for apping temp. I mean WTF sorreee I'm going to college to get a better job than you have, Ms. Bookstore Manager! *hmph*

House of Leaves is good so far. I'm just through the preface and it's very intriguing and abstract. If you ever read it, and you don't have Poe's Haunted album, you need it. They go together and I'll be glad when I know why.
I've never heard of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier Clay.

Crap... I think I remember some loophole for farm labour being under minimum wage. I was going to pull the "minimum wage is minimum wage" card. I don't want to have to go back to the movie theatre where I've been working for the past three summers. (The bookstores around here are a completely lost cause. The seem to hire only aimless thirty-somethings-and-older.)

It's... hmm. It's about comic book artists during WWII. Which doesn't really say anything terribly useful (I hate summarizing books more than anything, because I always want to hit all the tiny details, and that just doesn't work). Good so far, though I'm only about 50 pages in. ^_^ I was supposed to have read it for my writing class, and the other books we had to read (especially Cloud Atlas) were also good, so I figured I could grab it for summer reading (then get around to finishing Manhattan Transfer, which I loved in the bits of it I had time to read, but it was a 300-some page book due to be read the week of an 11-page midterm. Which was utterly heartless on the part of the professor. ... How horribly dorky is it that I'm catching up on reading I was supposed to do for classes over the summer?)

Yeah, I just want teh monies!

WWII comic artists? That sounds like something I'll probably be required or at least harassed to read in the next year. And yeah, reading during the school year, especially for school, comes damn last on my list of priorities. I've taken seven art history classes and haven't had to read the text yet. The only book I actually read all of for class and enjoyed was The Journey of Man about the path of human genetics. It was cool, if not a bit dense sometimes. (You aren't so bad. I still go through my old texts after the classes are over.)

Well, it's fiction, so at least it's got that in its favour. (The storytelling style is really... looping, plot-wise. Which loses me in parts, but always amazes me in a writer because you have to be so careful not to lose the reader...)

The only class I've had in college where I've honestly been able to get away with not reading the book was my Intro to Film class this past quarter... and even then, I had to go skim over seven chapters of it before the midterm (which I think in most university circles still counts as reading the book). Freaking Great Books curriculum. We never get to read books about anything, we have to read the "original." Which, as I learned winter quarter, can often be really poorly-written. Copernicus couldn't write at all, and Newton didn't even bother to check his math sometimes, whereas the people who had it wrong (like Descartes, who was my favourite) were at least entertaining.

Yeah, I've been wracking my brains since I was a little kid of ways I could write and be original, and not totally kill people's heads, so I'm always jealous when someone else accomplishes it. Hehe.

My school is sadly devoid of actual literature assignments. Which is bad. My friends are all reading stuff like you just listed, and I'm like, "Well, I once saw the original Codex Leichster..." However, I guess I know my art-movements and artists and all that, which is something at least. Duchamp is my own shiny hero. And wow, Newton... Go him.

I was reading House of Leaves. Then my roomate and I discovered we had a window only on the outside of our house. As in, 3 windows on the outside, but only two on the inside. Plus our house had a body room.
I stopped reading of House of Leaves.

Um... That's really kinda freaky. Like... Yeah. What's a body room?
I like House of Leaves.
Have you listened to Poe's Haunted album?
<3~

I miss youuuu~
