May. 24th, 2011 11:08 amSo I was fully intent on asking:
Does anyone besides myself really want to see Spencer Smith in a pillbox hat? Anyone?
I had a post-it note to remind myself to ask, and everything.
But apparently I didn't even have to ask, because
dorian_mauve is psychic and wonderful and we are totally on a wavelength. (HOW'S THAT KOOL-AID TASTING, BABY? TREATING YOU GOOD?)
Therefore, I amend-
Does anybody else really want to see Spencer Smith in a pillbox hat? Anyone else?
Vices & Virtues: It Came

I want to see the music video, a la Ready To Go, where they'll go through this series of AU's. There will definitely be motorcycles and cities at night and possibly princess-rescuing from castles and armor and a lot of vaguely religious/band-related visual metaphors.
♠ Ryan Ross's metaphor stick would totally be a metaphor cricket bat. Don't kid yourself.
♠ So, uh. They're not expecting us not to see this as one giant band metaphor, right? I mean... It's supposed to be glaringly obvious. ...Right?
♠ I am probably always going to associate this song with
manipulant and Jack In The Box. No. Really.
♠ One of my clients this morning nearly had a crisis trying to obtain a FOB CD for school. Since we got the request by phone and I didn't answer it, I don't know which of my clients it was and I kind of desperately want to know. But I can't just ask, because that'll make me look CRAZY. HA HA HA WHAT. I also really want to know which CD of theirs was so desperately needed. These things are relevant to my life.
♠ All I did this morning was text. That is all I did. I am occasionally a really terrible employee.
♠ I've officially drawn myself into a permanent state of raptor-hands. That hasn't happened since undergrad. WOO!

Date: 2011-05-24 07:04 pm (UTC)CAN I JUST SAY? That was my favorite text conversation ever. Like. IT'S SO MUCH MORE FUN TO BASK IN IT ALL WHEN YOU HAVE COMPANY! MAKE MY DAAAAAY WHY DON'T YOU?
Hahah yeah, I clicked play for the title and stayed for the horn analogies. I think Pompeii might be my favorite so far? Like. Just at a second-listen sort of basis. He's got the whiny emo boy thing going on that's like crack to me.

Date: 2011-05-26 05:44 pm (UTC)I keep listening to Razia's Shadow at work while I'm drawing (I feel weird listening to it not all at once or out of order), and it's really interesting to hear him taming things down a little. Not like, boring-tame. But less HOLY SHIT I HAVE SOME FEELINGS YOU NEED TO HEAR ABOUT. I totally respect the versatility.

Date: 2011-05-26 07:29 pm (UTC)The whole Patrick Stump Event basically stands as the be-all/end-all of this endeavor.
...You have no idea how bad I wanna see Gatsby's live right now. RIGHT NOW. Fuck being tired and halfway through an LJ post and needing to pry off my eyeliner with a pickax. RIGHT. NOW. They're so percussion-bound, I can absolutely see how letting the drummer drive would work. Which, btw. FUCK YEAH!!!
Worst band I've ever seen live was BY FAR Underoath. But I wasn't there to see them, anyway, regardless that they were headlining. I was there for Thursday and A Skylit Drive, both of whom were AMAZING. I think you've heard my review of the ASD segment, right? Holy SHIT those are some adorable little screamers. Like, I know you have a lot of feelings and pent-up frustration and I totally appreciate that, but it's hard to listen to the musical manifestation of your latent teenage angst while you're grinning like a maniac and making heart-hands at me around your guitar. Underoath, by comparison (and not by comparison) were a fucking joke. A bad one. Ugh. I'd never listened to them before, and I've pretty much blocked everything they did that night.
re: Nic's chameleonocity, I think there's some cred to be given there. I mean, look at FOB. Patrick's voice and sense of musicality is the reason they got anywhere at all, bolstered by Pete's entrepreneurship, of course, but still. He claimed himself that he never wrote a word (which is essentially bs but I'll let it slide), even though most of the stuff was a collaborative effort between him and Pete after Pete came up with concepts. But yeah, like. He was the conduit, and it was fucking flawless. Also, I can't remember what interview it was in, I should go back and look, but there's this blurb with Pete talking about how he wrote What A Catch just so he could hear Patrick sing it. AAAWWWWWWWWWWWAHHWHWHWHWH. He wrote it distinctly *for* Patrick in every sense. I could die of the bromance. I could DIE.
So yeah. I love the vocal versatility. Which obvs Chris Conley has, too. I mean holy shit, Toba the Tura SINGS. And yes, I know that's technically what that thing Chris does for Saves The Day is called, but you know what I mean, right? He's all melodic and shit.
HAY HAY MY ELECTRIC BLUE SUPRAS JUST CAME! THEY ARE ELECTRIC. boogiewoogiewoogiewoogie.

Date: 2011-05-26 09:01 pm (UTC)ARGH.
ASDFGHJ YOU KNOW MY FEELINGS ON MUSICAL BROMANCES. YOU KNOW THEM. So like, what, they just got tired of dealing with producers and shit? Because I totally get that, especially with what you've told me in addition to the idea of them I already had. Like. They're not very... conforming. I can't really see them being... handled, you know? And that generally doesn't fly 99% of the time. MCR will always crack me up with how they have Warner Bros wrapped around their mic stands and basically falling over themselves to do anything the band feels like.
SCRAP THAT WHOLE OTHER ALBUM YOU SPENT A COUPLE MILLION BUCKS BUILDING? UH. SURE, OKAY. HERE, HAVE MORE MONEY AND SUPPORT! :DDD PLEASE MAKE MORE MUSIC NOW, PLEASE.
It irritates me on a very juvenile level that this is not always the case.
...Nic Newsham and Patrick Stump would have a lot to talk about. Though I think Patrick went the opposite direction with the weight there at first. I'm so glad he's gaining some back, dude. It was kinda sketchy there for a minute.

Date: 2011-05-28 09:40 pm (UTC)Dude omg okay I wanna see them. Likenow. Though I can totally understand frustration with the industry, especially if you're doing certain types of venues and you aren't one of those bands that managers are begging to play at their establishments just for the cred. LAME. But respect-knucks for the solidarity, guys. ♥
I'll listen to the demos tonight when
But I can pretty safely say that I'd be more than happy to go. You wanna do a practice round of the 25th, where we go to a show and then take off in the morning and camp the next night?
Re: part 1
Date: 2011-05-29 01:09 am (UTC)It's interesting, the whole phenomenon that is FBR. I really love what Pete Wentz does, in supporting up and coming acts that are into his brand of personal grooming and publicity, but at the same time I'm so madly in love with bands that are like FUCK THE MACHINE and just rock their faces off however they can. AHAHAH COBRA. Man, that band. At least Cobra Starship doesn't take itself seriously, or we'd be in trouble.
A HA HA SO LISTENING TO THAT. BECAUSE HELLO I CAN IDENTIFY WITH THESE SENTIMENTS.
my liver tinglesSWEET. You realize that's next weekend, right?
GUH! MUSIC! YESSSS!!!
(say what you will, I love long, stupid track titles)
Re: part 1
Date: 2011-05-29 02:17 am (UTC)The therapist in me gets all happy when people so obviously get out all their inner shit through music. Like, when it's just SO FUCKING OBVIOUS, and yet not entirely self indulgent. Even so, that's probably one of the main reasons I like Razia's so much. Like, he's obviously working through his shit. Sometimes I just also wanna slap him a little.
AAAAAAAAHYES! Okay, so like. I don't know how you feel about crashing at your house after the show? I know it's a parental thing, so that could be difficult, but I'm just thinking that since we don't have a ton of time, it'd be easiest to camp somewhere nearish to where you live, and that way on Sunday I can drop you at home on the way back to Portland and not be dead for work at night. If you'd rather we got a motel, though, that's fine.
Also. I assume I should come up on Friday after you get out of class at... 3? Right?
IT WAS REALLY DIFFICULT NOT WRITING THAT IN ALL CAPS OHGODOHGOD I AM EXCIIIIIIIITED.
Re: part 1
Date: 2011-05-29 04:09 am (UTC)Okay, where should I meet you at?
WHY ISN'T IT NOW? I WANT IT TO BE NOW.
I have ALL OF THE CAMPING STUFF. Seriously, it's a little scary. I've got a tent and a stove and a cooler and like. Everything ever. AND A HATCHET! :DDDD
Re: part 1
Date: 2011-05-29 04:35 am (UTC)Yeah, no prob, I can handle that. Am I gonna be picking you up, or will you have a car there?
YES. I DEFINITELY HAVE AN IDEA. I DO I DOOOOO.
Yeah, something not more than a couple hours northwest/northeast of where you live, maybe? And we should definitely nail it down soon and contact the site if need be, since it's after Memorial Day and like, people will be doing outside shit and all.
Re: part 1
Date: 2011-05-29 06:30 am (UTC)8DDDDDDD
Yeah, those were the two I was looking at, too. I think maybe tomorrow we can like, idk, Skype or something and go through and find one or two, and then call about reservations? Just so we have something in advance?
Re: part 1
Date: 2011-05-29 06:49 am (UTC)Re: part 2
Date: 2011-05-29 01:58 am (UTC)OhmyGOD you have no idea how excited I am about the Dawn Of The Dead one, especially. I gotta wait ten minutes til Doctor Who is done downloading, fucking Megaupload. I'll totally give you a response tag, too.
DON'T APOLOGIZE DON'T APOLOGIIIIZE. IT MAKES ME HAPPY.
You have no idea how long it's been since anyone's managed to get me into new music. I mean, I find new stuff on my own and whatever, but I'm so used to being the one always inflicting music on other people. THIS IS FUN! :DD
Re: part 2
Date: 2011-05-29 02:29 am (UTC)It's making me think of like, a cross between The Misfits' Walk Among Us album and MCR's I Gave You My Bullets, You Gave Me Your Love, because that has Early Sunsets Over Monroeville on it, which is, again, basically Dawn Of The Dead in song form. Musically it's not the most interesting thing ever, but it focuses on my favorite element of zombie apocalypse stories, which is the interpersonal drama, and at the end it turns into this huge Tie The Rope-level metaphor about dying relationships. Like.
But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head...
And would anything matter if you're already dead?
And now should I be shocked by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger,
Your eyes vacant and stained...
And in saying you loved me,
Made things harder at best,
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains,
And there's no room in this hell,
There's no room in the next
OH MY GODDDDD WE ARE SO DRAMATICCCCCCCCC!
...At some point you're gonna end up hearing about my own, personal zombie apocalypse story thing, for that mythical day when I am suddenly able to write/draw my own comics. HA.
Re: part 2
Date: 2011-05-29 06:54 am (UTC)Okay, cool. Yeah, I can see the MCR stuff being harder to get into, but I think I'm gonna have to inflict a listen-along through like, the entirety of FOB when I have you captive in my car. OKAY!? :DDD

PSH, PICKY PICKY PICKY
Date: 2011-05-25 04:03 am (UTC)With the old singer, but the rest of them are too cute.
Cory's FACE!
The keyboardist keeps reminding me of the dude from Anberlin and needs to cut his stupid hair. I WAS RIGHT ABOUT MIKE CARDEN; I'M RIGHT ABOUT YOU.
EXACTLY.
Date: 2011-05-25 04:12 am (UTC)...And pretty much all of them.
Ohmygod his face, though. Third one down especially, where he looks like a junior high girl who just wandered into the photoshoot.
Happiest screamo band ever. ♥
