Yeah, so whoever wrote the Silent Hill script should be given a few lessons in scriptwriting... preferably with a blunt object. Although, it has it's moments where I was like, yeah. I'd totally be saying that right now (i.e. "What. The fuck."). And before I go any further, I'm gonna say it, and if you don't like it, whatever, but IT WAS GOOD! The movie rocked. Hard. It was just the right amount of reeally scary and sad and OMGWTFBBQKTHXBAI!!! to keep me and Lynnsie happy. And the best part? Well, one of them. The movie watched like the games played. Things happen in relatively the same order, in the same way, and the maps look like game maps and the main character gains and loses items. She starts with a lighter. I mean, holy crap that would suck. And there's even puzzles and stuff and they made me happy and kept the huge chain-link fences hanging over themselves all over the place, with strategically placed entrails and strung-up half-dead... things. And there's even the abyss that traps you in the town. Basically, it goes through most of the main elements of the second and third games. I haven't seen the first one played, but the guys in front of us, who kept talking to me and Lynnsie after, said it had some of that, too. It had Pyramid Head (anyone wanna hear my newly revised version of "Particle Man"? XD), and holy DAMN he was awesome. I won't say more about that but... Yeah. Can Opener: The Apocalypse. And it had the crazy religious lady with the 'fro, and the Torsos and all number of awesome things that make me wanna join the studio as a concept designer.
Oh, and the visual effects? Like, WOAH. They were seamless. It was pretty much what I had wanted the fourth game to cater to me. No annoying getting stuck and thrashed and running all over the map trying to aquire the right kind of knife. Just straight-up awesome hellspawn. In surround-sound. And believe me, they don't spare the details. I give the credit, because there were a few times where they just panned off whatever was happening and you sorta got to make your own mental images to go with the crunching bone and squishy noises.
Speaking of which, the sound design made me pop out a few babies of happy right on the spot. The sound was amazing. It was disorienting and not overpowering and the editors actually use their imaginations: There are whole scenes that almost rely on sound alone. Me and Lynnsie decided that just the sound or just the visuals would have made it a good movie. But it had both. Booyaka. And the music wasn't Akira Yamaoka (*sob!*), but whoever it was (can't remember...), he was smart, and just reinstated most of the soundtrack from the third game. The sort of ethereal quality and some of the isolated tones and audio-textures that made me so happy when I watched Katie play the second game, and of course, the prettypretty songs. The humming from the third soundtrack, and a lot of instumentals from "Waiting For You". Sadly, it pretty much left out most of the fourth game, including Room of Angel, and Julian, if you're reading this, I KNOW I have an unnatural fixation with that song, but it basically encompassed the theme of this movie. So there. XD
And I know a bunch of you are gonna go see it and be like, "Omg, it blew." But there's a difference between a script sucking and a few actors sucking and the movie being crap. Yeah, ok. Most of the male actors, save Boromir, SUCKED. Namely Deputy Dipwad whatever his name was. My gods, that man cannot act. But the main woman, Rose, has enough talent for everyone. And the woman cop starts out crappy but she rocks. Trust me. That, and honestly, I wasn't paying attention to most of the lines. All the important ones are delivered by good actors, so it's ok.

Oh, and one last complaint. [livejournal.com profile] rsiasta this is for you, since we talked about it before:
